Ghatkopar Cloth Stores (GCS) opened its doors in the year 1958. We started the business with sales of varied mill products like fabrics, sarees etc. In 1981 the business took a specialized form, selling only one product ‘Exclusive Silk Sarees’!

With association of Pujya Gurudevshri Rakeshji, we learnt about the gross cruelty borne by innocent silkworms for making silk sarees. We were awestruck to know that almost 10,000 of these poor creatures are boiled alive to extract silk for a single saree!

It was HIS guidance and inspiration that gave light to us on this act and hence, unwilling to be instruments of this mass massacre, we chose compassion instead. In a strategic decision, we decided to deal only in Vegan Silk Sarees. The year was 2006, and we stay true to our commitment towards compassion to this day!!!

Options were few, but our determination was strong! We sought out to our craftsmen who work on silk sarees to manufacture the same design and pattern in Vegan Silk, ensuring similar look, lustre and finishing. The Craftsmen generously supported us in our endeavor to support compassion. This was possible because of the goodwill built by the company over the years. The credits also extend to our Clients for supporting us at every step. Thus, we continue to offer the finest quality to our loyal customers.

In 2011, we were thrilled to receive the prestigious Certificate from PETA (the premier international organization for animal rights). We are the ‘Only showroom in India’ to achieve this milestone!!!

The year 2013, our business took a leap further by adding other Vegan ethnic varieties like Lehengas, Indo-western and Dresses.

In 2020, we were awarded “THE BEST VEGAN SAREES” by PETA India under the Vegan Fashion Award category!!!

The directors of the company, Mr. Deepak Mehta, Mr. Bharat Mehta and Mr. Rahul Mehta, share the quest to value life in the fashion industry. They are committed to sell and promote only vegan silk !!!
